Denice Gibson is a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the HonorHealth Cancer Transplant Institute, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has been a clinical nurse specialist for more than 20 years supporting the bone marrow transplantation, leukemia, and oncology service line. She works with in the 3 spheres of influence patient care, the profession, and the community. She is Governmental Affairs Officer for the Arizona Nurses Association and the Oncology Nursing Society's health care policy liaison.
Kathy Busby is a government relations/public policy consultant and licensed attorney with extensive experience in the health care and health insurance industries. She currently advises the Arizona Nurses Association, the Arizona Council of Human Service Providers (behavioral health and child welfare providers) and various individual health care providers. Previously she was the founding Executive Director of the Arizona Association of Health h Plans, which is comprise of the major health plans participating in the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). She has also represented skilled nursing facilities, ambulance providers, several AHCCCS and commercial health plans along with individual health care providers.
She previously served as the Vice President of Government/Public Affairs, Regulatory Compliance and Associate General Counsel for United Healthcare of Arizona. Kathy also served as United Healthcare’s Western Region lead for government affairs, risk management and compliance and has extensive managed health care experience in commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare product lines.
Prior to United Healthcare’s purchase of HealthPartners of Arizona and Arizona Physicians IPA (APIPA – the state’s largest Medicaid health plan), Kathy held various progressively responsible positions within these companies: 1997- 1998 – General Counsel; 1996-1997 – Director of Network Development and Provider Relations; 1992-1995 – Manager of Regulatory Affairs.
Kathy served as President of the Arizona HMO Association from 1999-2001; the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council from 2001-2005 and the Arizona State Board of Nursing from 2003-2016. She is currently on the board of Touchstone Behavioral Health.
Amish Shah, MD, MPH was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. His mother and father were engineering students who immigrated from India in the 1960s. He attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School as part of the Honors Program in Medical Education.
After medical school, Dr. Shah worked for LEK Consulting, LLC, an international strategy consulting firm. He completed a Master's in Public Health with a full Merit Scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley, followed by residency training in Emergency Medicine at New York City's busiest Level I trauma center. He won the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s National Resident Research Competition for his work in inventing a new method to provide care for the critically ill.
Dr. Shah taught medical students and residents at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York as a full-time faculty member and academic researcher. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. While there, he also led the New York Jets Airway Management Team. Amidst concern over the potential catastrophic injuries, he helped the NFL improve their emergency management through research and presented his work at the NFL Physicians’ Society.
Dr. Shah graduated from the University of Arizona’s Sports Medicine fellowship, a Division I college program featuring a wide breadth of sports coverage. His research project and clinical focus were ultrasound-guided procedures and diagnostics. He is currently board certified in Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine and practices throughout Arizona, treating adults and children.
Colleen is a retired Chief Nursing Officer with a diverse leadership background that provided her with experience on the front lines of health care, in middle management, and also executive leadership. Employed by Banner Health for 20+ years, Colleen served in various leadership positions in Banner hospitals, most recently at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center (now Banner University Medical Center Phoenix). During her Banner years, she had opportunities to lead major initiatives including cultural transformation, shared leadership implementation, electronic medical record implementation, and clinical process improvements.
A graduate of Indiana University and Loyola University, Chicago, Colleen has enjoyed a rich career and has a reputation as a transformational leader, influential speaker, and mentor of aspiring leaders. She Chairs the AZNA Political Action Committee, is a Board Member and Volunteer at NourishPHX, and serves as a reading and writing tutor for the Paradise Valley School System. She is also a wife, mother of two wonderful sons, and is interested in the Arts. Life in retirement is rich and full.
